From the moment we met Stewart we had confidence that he had the knowledge and experience to tackle what was a complex extension to our house. Of all the builders who tendered for the work Stewart spent the most time with us discussing our plans and his quotation ran to about 10 pages. Unlike quotes from other builders, Stewart detailed everything, so we knew exactly what we would pay for the work. Stewart set out a schedule of payments for us based on particular stages achieved on the build and didn’t ask for any money in advance.
He started on the day he said he would start and his team were really friendly and hardworking. We had to move out of the house for the period of the build and probably only needed to speak to Stewart once a week. I have friends who have had similar projects undertaken and they have had constant calls from their builders to check details or clarify points. We had complete trust in Stewart to get on with the job and he only called us when we needed to choose some details such as a particular door type, or glass pattern.
Inevitably with an old house there were some unforeseen problems as the builders began to demolish parts of it. We had two such occasions and Stewart contacted us and the architect to arrange site meetings and discuss options. Stewart always managed to come up with the best solution in these cases and would explain exactly what the plan was and what it would cost.
We have been completely satisfied with the final build, Stewart has built us a wonderful home. The quality of the workmanship is first class and the attention to detail on the finish is great.
We wouldn’t hesitate to use Stewart again for a building project and in fact would plan any future build around his availability.
This is one of our recent projects and was very interesting in many ways.
Steve and Helen Proffitt lived in an older style property which they wanted to extend both to the front, rear and to one side elevation, they had to vacate the property while the work was carried out as the inside of the property was to be completely stripped out, ( at one stage they were proud owners of a ruin).
We completely demolished the rear of the house fitting some major steel beams to support the existing and some extra new walls. We extended out to the back of the house forming a large dining kitchen with a master bedroom above with a Juliette balcony overlooking the rear garden. The front of the house was extended, forming a new play room with new bedrooms above. The existing roof was taken off and replaced, to line in with the new extension roofs. The inside was completely stripped out and the internal layout altered to form a new master bedroom with en-suite, 3 extra bedrooms and a family bathroom, completely transforming the house. It was re-plastered throughout with all new internal joinery, and a new fitted kitchen.
Adding new extensions to old properties has its problems, fortunately Steve and Helen appreciated this, and they trusted and took our advice when needed. They were a pleasure to work for and the result was a new home to be proud of.
